Oh dear, Barry - you can use the vagaries of Quantum Mechanics (incorrectly) to try and get out of admitting that you said something stupid and then you fail to do your research on this.

Inflammable was coined from "inflame", similar to our "enflame" (i.e. to set on fire). However, the confusion between this construction and the many occasions in which the prefix "in-" meant "not" lead to the construction of "flammable" so as to be less confusing. As SpaceDazee pointed out, they both mean exactly the same thing, and are both "correct".

If we're going to do this, I'll vote for combustible.

They wouldn't know what? That flammable and inflammable mean the exact same thing?
