It doesn't get any better than knocking someone down a peg. She let her ego get to her and assumed that she was just 'so' great that all he could possibly have to say to her was how much he wanted to be with her, which wasn't the case.
Reminds of this one guy I met at homecoming. After us hanging out two times, he avoids me for a week and the next time I talk to him he tells me. "I think we should see other people." My response? "Were we even going out?" The look on his face was priceless, and obviously he wasn't expecting that response, as he fumbled his words into a sentence that finally said. "No, I guess not."
