To extend on what vonderhsg was saying, Shakespeare's name was spelled any number of ways during his lifetime, even in his native London. Various critics have used different spellings at different times, before it became standardized as Shakespeare. Variants include "Shakspeare," "Shakespear," and even "Shackspear" and "Shaxpere."
