What the bigbang theory fails to explain is where matter came from. For an explosion to happen there has to be matter for it to react with to begin with.
I think it should be clear that, although from a relatively young age the universe was host to sound waves, any talk of what those waves "sounded like" in human terms is nonsense. That's part of the joke of the strip.

Huh? What? As I understand it, according to the bigbang theory, the very fabric of space was created by the big bang, no? Outside of the banging protouniverse there would have been NOTHING, not any matter, nor not even empty space. Isn't this what the bigbang theory says?
