and obviously a lot of people have decided to test the 4 star theory... there are now over 100 votes and this strip has 3.5/5 stars even though it's worth at least a 4 in my opinion.

It appears that the default ratting for any given strip is 4 stars, since I have rated strips 0.5 stars (in the name of science) and they still read 4 stars, even when I was the 4th or 5th person to rate that strip. I propose that it takes a heavy majority of voters voting high or low to change the default setting.Later on there are strips that are rated 5 and 3, but these tend to have over 1000 ratings at their back.

Considering people who come here are fans of the comic it seems about right to me.

"since 1989"-No, just since this site was launched.
I've seen at least three or four at 4.5 and I think I've also seen 3.5. Even so, it's very strange if nearly every strip is voted 4 stars.
