@MarillionFan
Well, as a young adult born and raised in Alabama, I'd like to say that I really don't appreciate you blaming the southern states for giving Americans a bad name and for being racists. If you believe that we're all racists, you must also believe in southern hospitality as well. It really makes sense that a group of people who are known for their hospitality and love for Jesus and God are also ignorant racists, doesn't it?
You're the one throwing around a term that was from the Civil War 150 years ago, one that's derogatory to a group of people simply because of where they live--that's not so different than a racist term, is it not? You're the one that's maintaining an ignorance of other peoples so that you can be confident in your superiority, regarding a place you've probably never been to!
A good many of the people down here are of color, I've grown up with them, had them in every one of my classes, and there's not as much racism as you northern folk would like to believe. And besides, Yankee is a term for the northern states.
I wonder if MarillionFan realizes his comment is in it self a racist comment, where he talks in a derogatory manner about all southeners being "racists" and "red neck embarrasments"..
Unfortunately, in real life, people seem to be determined to conclude that you are a racist bigot, even if the logical conclusion one could draw from reading what you write or listening to what you say suggests otherwise. This means that you do have to be careful.
He doesn't have to "be careful." Barry made no generalization or characterization. He merely commented on the ability to do a job by an inexperienced and ill-exposed group of people.
Except that those being referred to are illiterate and wouldn't be able to read the strip OR the comments. Unless they are only illiterate in their own language and quite fluent in written and spoken English.
