Yeah, a lot of people thumbs down a person out of principle. I think it shows poor character when you judge the source instead of the information coming from it. That applies to many things in life. I could HAAATE someone, but I won't dismiss advice from them if it's applicable and worthwhile. That's just a closed-mided approach.
