Oops, I could have sworn that article mentioned the concept of using error margins to argue in favor of 2 2=5. Nevermind then.

Not necessarily, if you consider error margins. Measurements have a margin of error of half the smallest place value, in this case 500. Since (14000 /- 500) - (9000 /- 500) is 5000 /- 1000, the bosses statement that it is *about* 6000, his statement is technically true.See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2_+_2_=_5
