The Egyptians would shave all of their hair off. It was thought to be more sanitary, and I kinda agree with them.

There seems to be a growing hairfobia, it used to be only women who were required to remove all normal bodyhair, now its men too, beards are going... we'll all end up !$%*!$ bald and without eyebrows eventually. Obviously with piercings and tattoos all over the place. Actually it would interesting, the next generation will rebel by refusing to be pierced...

Oh, I had a clean enough beard that I was still advised to shave. There's just a collective desire here for a lack of facial hair, and again, while accepting rings and studs in the nose, eyebrow, earlobes, tongue... Something natural is disliked while piercings (and tattoos!) are adored. Not my kind of culture.

I reckon it depends on how big the beard is. If its unclean and unkempt, then be worried.
