We have free will in the sense that no other being controls our minds, but we do not have free will in the sense that we are subject to our own electro-chemical thought processes.

Solearis: As you've acknowledged, the theoretical A.I. would rely on set programming, whereas the biological brain/organism adapts to its surroundings and essentially "programs" itself in many ways, though based (almost?) entirely on its physical make-up. You need a network capable of shaping itself into a mind, a network with an in-built basic sense if identity, it seems to me.
