Haven't you ever heard somebody say that they're being kept like a mushroom? That is, in the dark and covered in $#!7. I think that's what they're getting at with Wally going to be in a mushroom.
re barrycarter: I did not, but if you're asking me how that made it past the censors, it's because people weren't as uptight in the 60's. A flower on an episode of Star Trek TOS did pretty much the same thing. By the way, smiling Spock = creepy.
