Hmm, it says Beta, can we opt out of the beta test? I just realized, the flash controls on the previous page, really aren't necessary. They're just buttons to go to the other pages, and most of them don't have anything to do with the comic at hand, and are duplicates of the navigation bar above. For the controls that aren't, they can easily be reimplemented with Ajax.
I wonder if anyone did a usability study on the new site format? That would have been nice. Or, are the admins tracking any usage patterns via google analytics or otherwise?
What the truck, this is pretty disappointing. The site looks like crap in Firefox, and the flash is useless. It was pretty nice to be able to open multiple comics in multiple tabs with a few deft ctrl-clicks and catch up for the week, but IE makes it that much more difficult. Any web dev worth their salt should be able to use some Ajax instead to implement these features and make everyone's lives easier. Driving away your viewer base isn't quite the way to monetize your web properties...
Anybody figure out which directories the images are stored in?
"Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows XP Media Center 2005, Mac OSX 10.3 or Mac OSX 10.4 is required to view this page"
please remove whatever check gets done, its just not needed. all that is needed is flash (faking my user agent string enabled to to view it.
using linux and Firefox
some more general thoughts on the new site:
- it doesn't feel solid, it looks like some random bricks got mixed together :/
- the flash dependency is really a pain
- the loading times on slow lines are terrible as well
- bring back a convenient way to browser to old comics please!
Thanks Andy! (as in: Count me in as liking the older format better... I've spent 5 minutes trying to find yesterdays strip: I was too early yesterday, so it wasn't posted yet...)
