My company tried this briefly... it turned out the 5-10 minutes all the coffee-drinking employees complained about the new policy every day cost more than the coffee.

So that must be why the plastics plant I worked at (years ago) ran off all the non-meth-heads. Short sighted solution that didn't work, but boosted the bottom line until the place was "downsized". (I am sure that was the plan all along, but can't prove it)
As a tie-in to yesterday's strip, the CEO and CFO were convicted of embezeling $600million of shareholder funds before they ran me off. How is THAT for "maginally legal activities"?

@KevinKunreuther: Usually when companies fire employees in order to save money, but still need their expertise and hire them back as "external consultants", they have to pay at least twice their previous salary for their services. But money is still saved, technically speaking, because "that is a different budget" ;)
