Get rid of the (likely overpaid) whiny jerk who is toxic to morale. When the economy turns around (meaning stimulus projects in my case), the company will have to hire some of these goons back to have a hope of meeting the deadlines. Our PHB thinks he is a genius right now, as has managed to keep us operating in the black without landing any new projects. But I can't help wonder what the ultimate costs will be.
I just count myself lucky that I am not a whiny jerk, or I would have been gone a month ago. :-P
