Wally is shown that he once had a soul, cared, was disappointed one time too many. The corporate culture crushed Wally to the point of where he no longer cared about anything. For a normal person, being lazy is actually hard work. Wally is not lazy, he is the zen master of the disenchanted employee, he no longer cares, knows no fear (though he can be very rarely "surprised"), can deflect any attempt to to induce what would prove to be a futile exercise in productivity, usually with a koan wrapped in an slight blanket of sarcasm. The company created Wally and cannot expunge him.
I am only disappointed in the quick demise and outcome of the criminal Wally arc. It could have gone on much longer. And why would Wally invest his "earnings" in a financial fund created by the dysfunctional company he works for?
