Dilbert is not a salesman that is for sure, he could handle the situation better, could stay away from customer and could keep her in hand as well.

but it is a sunday comic (usually it is a comic that it is out of the storyline).

In this strip Dilbert seems to be very much out of character. I've never seen him that out and out impolite before. A change like that in his behavior needs several strips to set it up or another character in the strip to make the point that's being made.

Dilbert isn't so much a germophobe as much as he is just plain gullible. He actually listens to news reports... and maybe HR reports...
