We have an extensive "engagement" process at my employer. To improve "engagement" we have re-named meetings as "celebrations" and started to give people YOU'RE APPRECIATED papers whenever someone takes the time to fill out and give to the manager an appreciation form.
The pay is still the same, and after an initial uptick in our "engagement" numbers our workload was almost doubled. Also, our bosses refused to count middle-of-the-road numbers in our engagement survey, so only "strongly disagree" and "strongly agree" were counted, which made their numbers look somewhat better.
Truly it is about getting idiots to work harder for no extra money!
