Kind of funny how Carol admits to showing her through "a combination of insanity and stalking", as though they are completely separate. But isn't the former already a significant feature of the latter?

My first thought was that the "old carpet" was linked with "insanity"--it didn't have to make sense, it was simply a random, insane demand of hers. But some of the other theories have merit, too.
