I think the main reason the rating is so low is that many people didn't notice that "the head regulator is in the CEO's pocket". I didn't until a second pass reading the strip.
Conclusion: It is quite funny, but perhaps a little too abstract.
Well, days after the fact, this probably won't get noticed, but that's okay. I think you folks misunderstand me. I have no quibble with whatever Scott wants to cartoon about. I understand perfectly that his characters are extreme exaggerations (usually) of real-world prototypes, and not to be taken literally, or even taken seriously.
In fact, your replies support my point. It's the narrow-minded comments from the peanut gallery - those folks going 'yeah, yeah, that's exactly how all regulators are, hahaha, tear them up Scott' that I have a problem with. It's the ignorant people who don't know what they're talking about that I'm referring to.
Regarding the need to lighten up; um, yeah, maybe. Okay, I'm guilty as charged. It's just that stupidity gets me riled up. Like the bumper sticker says: "Stupidity Should Hurt"
You guys do realize that this is a comic strip, right? Not scott's diary, column, blog, book, etc..a comic strip. And just because he makes a comic strip doesn't mean hes stating an opinion about something specific. If you want to comment on Scott's specific opinions it might be better to do so on his blog, because I really see nothing here beyond the dilbert universes ceo joking about how easy it is to control the dilbert universe regulator. Which could easily be more of a warning about how bad things can get then a commentary about how scott views things as working currently, or who knows maybe something else entirely. Maybe its not even intended to mean much at all. You just don't know, because it is of course a comic strip. So while I agree that it's kind of fun to speculate sometimes lets all keep in mind that because of the nature of this art itself, you often can not really be sure what specifically is being said beyond the joke if anything at all.
That being said I think this comic is definitely worthy of more then a 2 1/2 star rating :/ Some of you people clearly need to lighten up..
