Woh! What is this thing?!
This is a social bar from the Dilbert team and our friends at Meebo. It is a cool little feature we've added to Dilbert to make sharing comic strips, Mashups and other content, a simple click of the mouse from any page.
Try it out – use the buttons to instantly send the next funny comic you read to your Facebook status or your Twitter feed. We’re adding even more ways to share soon, so check this space often!
Honestly, I don't get the whole social media thing. I have a friend who was always saying, "Get on face book so we can keep in touch!" I finally sign up and he's never on the D@MN thing!
I can understand it's use as free advertising for a business but 99% of the information that comes across my facebook page is just fluff. I really don't need to know that your kid plunged up the toilet again or that your need help on Mafia Wars or found an egg on Farmville.
Same thing with twitter. Most of the stuff that you get is fluff. I know that social media has a use. I just think most people use it as a time killer so I can understand why companies ban its use. Seriously, next time you log onto Facebook or Twitter ask yourself if what you are doing is of any real benefit to you or if you're just killing time.
Here's hoping Mark Zuckerberg doesn't know where I live.
Amazing how much I can report this as being so true! Social Media is a funky thing and everyone thinks that they should get involved. Then when they have the whole system in place they place a large sterile filter for their SM correspondence to go through. The result is a wasted opportunity and a corporate broadcasting service through another channel. Here's a great example: http://twitter.com/richardbranson
Sir Richard's Twitter feed should really be about him up a mountain in a kayak instead along with all the other charity things that are going on.
I would laugh harder if this isn't precisely the policy of USDA (where I USED to work) and where you can get fired for other people's editing of your speeches to make you sound like something you're not. Don't believe me? Ask Shirley Sherrod (I am not she, but she rocks for not taking Vilsack's made up civil rights job.) USDA still is truly the last plantation.
