"IMHO China is a great factory, but as of today they really don't innovate."

Now when have I heard that before? Oh yes, about 30 years ago when somebody commented about Japan. China is "Superjapan" in more than one way. Politicalilly independent with a world-class market. Many of the Chinese products you haven't even heard about because the manufacturers didn't bother to go abroad.

Sorry. Meant to say "I don't think it's a matter of not being able to innovate but of not wanting to innovate."

Must learn to edit better. :(

@ Solearis - I think it's a matter of not being able to innovate or a matter of not wanting to innovate. Why bother developing something when the real money is in mass producing it?

If you think about it, China made huge innovations in engineering, agriculture, and other fields of science and technology while most of Europe was still figuring out basic hygiene.

Google ancient chinese technologies and you'll see what I mean.

IMHO China is a great factory, but as of today they really don't innovate. They are superb reverse engineers and can mimic a produce at an amazing rate. However, they still need to look into other countries for new ideas. (I don't know how much of this is because of the way the social system is set up in China. Also, if you want to exchange mimic for steal, do - it's your prerogative.)

Weird. I suspect it's just a couple of key phrases. Sorry for the repost.
