While learning from one's failures is theoretically a wise thing to do, the concept doesn't apply to Wally at all. Wally is successful at shirking his duties, consuming mass !$%*!$%*!$ of coffee, and pointing out the epic failures of those around him. He knows everything he needs to know.
It has been my experience that those most likely to spout this nonsense are the ones most in need of the very self-examination they espouse but who seem totally clueless...

PHB looking in one direction while Alice lambastes heightens the "kick in the a$$" effect. Then he's frozen like a deer about to be hit by a truck, so has to look back at her from the corner of his eye, more enhanced effect. Then Wally runs him over.
