Your comment re: the militant religious right confuses me. Nowhere do I see any comment that remotely fits your description. Vitriolic hatred? Could you possibly be referring to Sweetnsilly's thoughtful responses to an offensive comment about Christ? No human figure is more attacked, ridiculed, spit upon, reviled and rejected, even to this day, 2000 years later, than Jesus is. I find that remarkable, and telling. Guess it was He who hit it on the head.
By the way, you can find nuts and jerks of every color and religious affiliation (atheists included). You don't have to look hard. It's just that no one likes a hypocrite, so the Christians get it the worst.
@sweetand silly - First SN wasn't suggesting showing a picture for entertainment - he was suggesting Alice had said it instead of kitten ( personally I'd prefer a puppy)
Second - how many churches show pictures of Christ's demise ? - OK often portrayed as a nice neat romanticised crucifiction - when SN would use a much less pretty but more realistic version of "events". Do they do that as entertainment ? education? something to meditate on? art for art's sake ? .........
Ah, America's indignantly militant religious right. Gotta love it. Makes an Islamic fatwa look calm & reasonable.
People say stuff - some of it is funny, some is not. Some of it's a bit on the Nose, some is not. You don't have to launch into vitriolic hatred of everyone who has different or less extreme beliefs than you. Sometimes you can turn the other cheek......
