@froginthewell: Thanks for your answer.
1.-2. Sorry, I was referring to his/her first post. It had a few thumbs down then.
I agree that the second one was pretty rude.
3. While this might be a possible intention it wasn't apparent to me from the first post alone.
4. Ok, I don't know about that, since I mostly don't read all the comments, but that kind of thumb downing kinda defeats the purpose of the voting system.
5. Wouldn't that be "off off topic", since we were off topic to begin with?^^
Good one today, and one I can relate to as I did the same myself many years ago while demonstrating an 'unbreakable mirror' needless to say it wasn't as unbreakable as I would have liked it to be. Talk about egg on my face.
You want to get some thumbs down? I've found that your best bet is to insult Europeans. Example:
You can get some serious thumbs down by mentioning that Europeans tend to be a bunch of smug, sanctimonious, hypocritical babies. One way to insult Europeans is to suggest that they might not understand something that is foreign to them. Especially if it's American, because Europeans know that America has no real culture. And, the Europeans fully understand what little culture America has, because America exports many of its movies and television shows to Europe.
So, you see, since the Europeans have seen ALF and Pulp Fiction, they understand everything about the United States and the American people... because fiction is the same as reality. Therefore, to suggest that there is a joke that only Americans would understand is just false, because Europeans understand everything.
Another way to get thumbs down is to talk about how Europe believes it is the only civilized region on the planet. The rest of the world should thank Europe for conquering, colonizing, and enslaving it for 400 years. Of course, the USA is one of the least civilized places on Earth, because many Americans foolishly refuse to acknowledge the absolute supremacy of European laws, customs, culture, and government.
You see, Europeans love to talk about the inferiority of American civil rights and equality. For example, just 67 years ago, Europeans executed 12 million of their own civilians because they were considered "undesirable" by their government. But that's nothing compared to the horrors of living in the United States. What, most Europeans have never even been to the United States? Well, that won't stop them from pontificating about American politics.
What would possess the Europeans to complain endlessly about American politics? I mean, most Europeans have never been to the United States, never mind lived there. Well, most European "news" outlets have a giant anti-American fetish. They love to fan the flames of hatred that their fans have for the United States by reporting endlessly about everything bad that happens there. For example, most European news sources spent a lot more time reporting about the Virginia Tech massacre, than they spent reporting about the Oslo shootings and car bombs.
And yet, the Europeans love to go on and on about Fox News, as if that was the ONLY American news source. Never mind the fact that Americans can choose between Fox, CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS, as well as dozens of other news sources. As far as Europeans are concerned, the only news in the USA comes from Fox, and most Americans are brainwashed by Fox on a daily basis. After all, that's what their European news sources tell them, therefore it must be true.
