You are correct. I forgot that fear is also an effective motivator against ones judgment. So the statement I made is half true. And a half true statement is a lie.
However, in this particular case, the motivator was greed, not fear.

Dunno if you have an equivalent show in America to the UK program Rouge Traders. Its about tradesmen (plumbers, roofers, etc) who will tell lies to old people. Its usually some scary story that if they don't get something fixed now, their house will fall down. They panic the poor old folk into letting them do some unnecessary job on their house and often don't do it properly, leaving the house in a worse state than when they started.
No greed on the part of the home owner. Just gullibility. And an empty bank account.
