I was once reading a map while my mother drove our car through an unfamiliar area and she disagreed about the directions without even looking at the map, just because it "didn't feel right." She turned the wrong way onto a highway and became hopelessly lost in the wrong town.

@DesultoryPhillipicWhile what you describe may hold as a trend, exceptions are far from few.
I know many women who are better map readers than most men, and quite a few men who are like what you describe regarding your lovely wife.

There's no substitute to knowing your way around town. I smile in satisfaction whenever I ignore the GPS, take a better route, and then observe how the expected arrival time jumps to several minutes earlier.

@nelkinsAre you kidding? Alice is a woman and, in my experience, very few have a sense of direction. I've told my wife for years that odd numbered highways run north & south, even run east and west (in the States) so she only had two directions to choose from. I further told her that which ever way she chose, go the opposite and she would never be wrong. North, South, East, and West then became the problem.
