What PHB has said is perceived as an absolute truth in Indian science. Examples: Back in the 1950s, a scientist managed to get an Amino Acid Analyser for his lab, a fancy instrument of those days. Research papers started flowing out: Amino acid Composition of cow's milk; rat milk; camel milk; elephant milk; tiger milk; gerbil M; buffalo M: Lion's M: .... He soon became, from a RENOWNED SCIENTIST. Switching to the 1990s, one of my colleagues managed to get an HPLC. He analysed 7000 soil samples for their zinc content, and became the boss of the lab, as also a UN expert. The game goes on. In the 1980s, I used to say, analysis of 100 wheat varieties for lysine content is all that is needed for a Master's degree, and 700 is sufficient for PhD.
