The more management has to watch/talk to staff, the less trusted staff actually feel... a good manager should not need to interact with the staff more than necessary... the PHB on the other hand learned from none and makes things up as he goes along based on articles with less substance and fact than any thing found in the onion.
I know one engineer who spent his entire stint at one workplace creating virus-like programs to undermine the company that he worked for.
That was back in the late '80s, when such activities were not actually prohibited by law.
He got to retire with full benefits.
