I sometimes wish the 10,000 hour "IN THE HOLE!" guy would be beaten senseless with 10,000 golf clubs. Ok...maybe more than sometimes.

OK, the way I always heard it was "10,000 hours to become an expert." So, not "practicing one thing" but getting experience in a field. Also, an easy way to calculate is, there are 2080 hours in a work year (at 40hrs/wk) less 80 hours vacation; 2000 hours a year or five years.
