RxF- I wouldn't want anyone "who can do it their sleep and is dead bored" to be anywhere near doing surgery on me. It would be a right royal #*$!!ups when my body doesn't fit the exact boring template. A million times and thousand of those are stuff-ups. My elderly friend got her knees fixed by some bored doctor- they had to both be done twice. Passion for getting right is important.
Remember the nineties? I did exactly this. It was a Friday afternoon and I'd just done a very long stint on a customer site cleanup up the PHB's imbecility. It was six thirty and I called the office to tell him it was all sorted out. He said "I need you to come into the office, we have a problem here and I need you here."
After a long silence, I said "I've had enough of this. I'm not coming back." He said, as though I were the cause of his problems, "Don't do this to me." I replied, "You did it to yourself, !$%*!$%* [click]".
I returned an agency call on the way home and Monday morning I had another job.
My reaction to the strip was simply that I wish I had had the courage to do what the gang of three just did. Stand up during an inane meeting, say 'I quit', and walk out the door.
In the long run it was probably better that I didn't do that, but there were times I hated myself for putting up with the ignorance of management.
