If you pay people too much, they will not care about the company and will go all prima dona. And in turn, will sink the company.
Instead make each employee have shares on the company. So when the company does well, so will them, if the company does bad, so will them. A cooperative (instead of corporation) so that they have a saying on the direction of the company.
Can you people imagine how powerfull would be a company, if it found a balance between management and employee needs? If it could motivate people, paid them as much as possible but not that much to let them become lazy, and didn't make them angry with company for over-management etc. It would rule the world soon. Definitely!
