If the CEO himself were truly level-conscious, he wouldn't be talking to Dilbert directly; there would be at least 4 layers of management between him and the drones. I once had a managing director - one of the most pompous, self-important stuffed shirts I have ever had the misfortune to know - institute an "open door" policy, which was great until I actually tried to take advantage of it. The message that came back down the chain was "Don't ever talk to the managing director again." There are not enough adjectives in the thesaurus to describe my execration of corporate culture.
