cool your jets, I agree, that it must be some kind of work ethic, that the British introduced when they took control of the Hindustan's around 1860. Before that, I hear claim in the great wisdom and knowledge in the (thousands of years old) Ancient Books called the Veda. So before that I think that someone did lots of thinking (according to a professor of Math that was studying texts from Jyotish math spoke in one of my old classes) and they rested on their laurels for a LOOONG time. However, how old is the puritan work ethic? it must have contaminated the world around the same time.
